Options to get to Marathon Beach Resort Hotel from Athens International Airport
Finding your way at the airport:
Athens International Airport (ATH – “El. Venizelos”) isn’t a huge airport (it consists of one main and one satellite terminal) and it’s definitely not a chaotic one. There are plenty of signs and English speaking staff to help you find your way.
So, you have five (5) options to choose from, in order to get from Athens International Airport to Marathon Beach Resort Hotel [Address: 12 Poseidonos Ave, Nea Makri 19005] :
- Option A – Metro Line 3 (M3) → KTEL Attikis bus (most straightforward)
- Option B – Metro (Airport → Pallini) → OASA city bus 314 to Nea Makri (one ticket may cover both legs)
- Option C – Airport bus to Rafina → local bus to Nea Makri
- Option D – Taxi from the Airport directly to the hotel
- Option E – Hotel Arranged Transfer
-
Airport → Nomismatokopio (Metro | Μ3 “Blue Line”)
-
Follow the “Trains/Metro” signs from Arrivals to the airport metro station and board Line 3 toward “Dimotiko Theatro”.
-
Frequency: every ~30–36 minutes all week. First/last departures approx. 06:30–23:30.
-
Travel time to station “Nomismatokopio”: ~25–26 min. Fare: €9 (Airport Metro ticket). Your airport ticket includes 90 minutes of transfers on all OASA buses/tram/trolley after the first validation.
-
-
Nomismatokopio (street level) → Nea Makri / Marathon (KTEL Attikis bus)
-
Exit the metro and walk to the KTEL Attikis stop outside Nomismatokopio station (the Attica regional orange buses). Look for buses signposted “Νέα Μάκρη / Μαραθώνας (Nea Makri / Marathon)”.
-
Operator: KTEL Attikis. Typical frequency: about hourly. Indicative fare: €2–€4 to Nea Makri / Marathon. Pay on board (cash preferred).
-
-
Where to get off for the hotel
-
Ask for “Platia Neas Makris (Νέα Μάκρη Πλατεία / Nea Makri Square)”. From the square it’s an easy 5–8 minute walk (≈400–600 m) south along Poseidonos Ave to Marathon Beach Resort (coastfront). The official KTEL stop map lists Nea Makri Square among the Rafina–Nea Makri–Marathon stops.
-
Time & cost (per person, typical): ~1 hr 30 min–1 hr 50 min, €11–€13 total (Metro €9 + KTEL €2–€4). If your bus ride happens within 90 minutes of first validating the €9 metro airport ticket, you can board OASA buses for free—but KTEL is not OASA, so plan to pay KTEL separately.
-
Airport → Pallini (M3)
-
Take Metro Line 3 toward “Dimotiko Theatro” and get off at station Pallini (about 17 minutes). Frequency: ~every 30–36 minutes. Fare: the same €9 Airport Metro ticket.
-
-
Pallini / Doukissis Plakentias → Nea Makri (OASA bus 314)
-
From Pallini (or nearby Doukissis Plakentias hub), board OASA route 314 (variants serve Nea Makri, look for 314 Γ/“Gamma”). This is a regular city bus (OASA).
-
Where it goes: Bus no 314 runs Doukissis Plakentias/Pallini ↔ Rafina / Nea Makri (the “Γ” branch reaches Nea Makri). Check the bus headsign or ask the driver.
-
Ticketing advantage: The €9 Airport Metro ticket includes 90 minutes of onward travel on all OASA modes, so if you board 314 within 90 minutes of first validation, you don’t need another ticket. If your 90 minutes expire, a standard 90-minute OASA ticket is €1.20. Frequency: typically 15–30 min by day; evening may be sparser.
Time & cost (per person, typical): ~1 hr 40 min–2 hr, €9–€10.20 (depending on whether that extra €1.20 ticket is needed).
-
Airport → Rafina (KTEL Attikis): direct bus from Arrivals (near Exits 2–3). Travel time: ~30 min. Reported fare: sources differ by season/updates (€3–€5.50); buy on board (cash). Frequency: roughly every hour (varies by day).
-
Rafina → Nea Makri: continue by OASA 310 or KTEL Attikis along the coast via Mati / Nea Makri / Marathon. Ask for Nea Makri Square stop for the short walk to the hotel. (OASA 310 appears in the official telematics, and KTEL also runs along this corridor.)
Time & cost (per person, typical): ~1 hr 40 min–2 hr, ~€4–€7 total (depending on which bus you take after Rafina and current fares).
To the Athens Airport Taxis: Using the Athens airport taxi service is probably the best option for groups of three or more people, and especially families. The Athens Airport Taxi service has a flat rate of 40€ during the day (before midnight) to the city center. The night time rate is 55€. The travel from the Airport to the hotel is ~27–40 minutes depending on traffic.
The set prices for airport taxis from Athens International change from year to year. You can double check the prices by asking before you get into the taxi.
Cost estimate: Pre-booked or flat-rate services commonly advertise about €45 to Nea Makri (day), and ~€50 to Marathon; late-night/large vehicles cost more. Street taxis on the meter should be in the €35–€60 band depending on time/traffic/tolls.
